In northwest Missouri lies the Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge, I went there one year in mid-November.  Arriving on a Sunday afternoon, Refuge officials estimated the total number of lesser snow geese at approximately 25 thousand.  Every day while there I watched in amazement as the flocks grew ever larger, by Friday when I left they estimated there were one quarter of a million geese present!  Each afternoon, by some signal undetectable to me, the geese would rise in unison and exit the refuge.  Once fully airborne the flock began breaking into smaller groups to fly to surrounding crop fields to feed.  The sight, the sounds, were unimaginable.  What a sight!
